State Council Meeting in Lebanon,

Saturday, 9AM-4PM, January 23rd, 2010

American Legion Santiam Post #51, 480 Main ST, Lebanon

So here we are at the beginning of a new chapter in OSC history. The next OSC meeting will be Jan. 23 2010. It will be at the Legion in Lebanon. the lunch is going to be prepared by a group of Native American Veterans and will be a traditional native American meal. I am proposing that we contact all the chapter presidents and ask them to bring to the meeting ideas that will:

1) Give the State Council a joint project to work on. In the presentation of their idea they should identify how this project might unite the state in a common goal, increase membership, and show how this project will benefit veterans. I would like to hear several ideas that will be spearheaded by the presenting chapters and assisted by the other chapters and the State Council. The Council could then vote on the ones they want to support and endorse.

2) All the same "yadda yadda" except geared toward fund raising. This will be a bit more of a challenge as fund raising on a state level is something that is difficult, to say the least. I spoke with a gal at the CSCP, from Ann Arbor, MI, who's chapter made $14,000 on a spagetti feed.

The major push at the CSCP and the convention was health care and  getting to the 5 out of 7 elegable vets signed up for the medical services. They have also talked quite a bit about encouraging co-operation with some of the other VSOs. Some day the ongoing conflicts will end and veterans will once again be put on the back shelf. We must strike while the iron is hot. We should be looking for ideas that will inspire people to action. At the January meeting we can look at ideas and then devise a course of action.
